Over thirteen years ago the Shadbolt family bought a Royal Ann cherry orchard in the Eola Hills west of Salem, Oregon.   The orchard was previously farmed conventionally, using synthetic fertilizers and pesticides.  We decided not to continue farming using those same practices, so we converted the orchard to organic by using cover crops as natural fertilizers, organic sprays to combat the pests that threaten the trees and mechanical methods to control the weeds and blackberry vines.

And so began Cherry Country, a company based on showcasing the dynamic sweet-tart flavors of the Royal Ann cherry. Now thirteen years later we have received organic certification from Oregon Tilth and finished construction of our own cherry processing facility dedicated to the sorting, pitting and drying of the Royal Ann cherries from our orchard on the hill above the building.

The most common market for the Royal Ann cherry is the maraschino cherry industry, but we didn’t want our organically grown cherries turned into an artificial and chemically altered cherry.  This provided the inspiration to redesign the cherry cordial, taking out the maraschino and replacing it with a high quality, flavorful dried cherry.  With that began the idea to create Dried Cherries & Chocolate, a gourmet cherry chocolate, using our organic and non-organic Royal Ann cherries dried to perfection without any preservatives, sulfites, sugars or enzymes. We offer this gourmet product to you in either milk or dark chocolate.  In addition to selling Dried Cherries & Chocolate, we are now offering three different varieties of Oregon grown, sulfite free dried cherries and soon we will be offering other products combining our dried cherries with other delicious ingredients.

From our orchard to your taste buds, we offer you our best cherry creations.
